Review Huawei Watch

There are many wearable smart devices on the market today. While the Apple Watch is the most well-known, it is far from the only option.

One of the best watches out there is the Huawei Watch, which serves as a great example of Android Wear.

The technology came out a few years ago, but it still one of the best options around.

Though it easy to trend towards Apple for when looking for a wearable device, the Huawei Watch is more than worth your money. The following guide will show you why.

Great Features and a Low Price

The Huawei Watch is an excellent bargain option for those looking to get into Android Wear. Many watches out on the market come with a massive price tag, but that simply isn't the case here.

Though a lot of people tend to shy away from great deals, this model helps you save some money without sacrificing quality or features.

While the Huawei Watch came out at $350 at launch, it is easy to find for well below $300 these days. That is significantly cheaper price than the top end of the market, and it is a steal when you calculate all of the attributes included in the device.

A Large, Noticeable Face

The first thing to analyze when looking at the Huawei Watch is its great display. The face measures 1.4 inches across, and comes with a stellar 400 x 400 resolution.

Those come together to deliver incredible pixel density (at 286ppi) that goes beyond just about every other smartwatch. Most models have 320 x 320 screens, and you'll be able to see that difference as you use the Huawei.

Beyond being able to actually view the screen more clearly, the extra room is also great because it gives you more space to operate. This is not something that is readily apparent, it comes in handy through repeated use.

That bigger face is also great for those who like to create their own faces through apps like Facer.

Colors that Pop

Expanding on the amazing screen, the fully circular AMOLED display's extra pixels go a long way towards creating a great-looking product.

All of the colors, from dark hues to bright shades, explode off the screen and look vibrant during use.

This model also has an extremely sturdy sapphire crystal glass screen, which is a feature typically found in special watches that go for much, much higher prices.

That mixes with the sharp circular design to add an extra dimension of style to the product. While wearable technology pieces need to have a lot of power, they are also an accessory.

A good look is important, and the Huawei Watch excels on that front with flying colors.

Useful in any Light

The watch also has great brightness options, which helps you view it in all types of light at all times of the day.

There are 5 brightness settings here, and each of them helps you perfectly tune the face to your liking. You can even see the screen in bright or direct sunlight (which is a problem many other smart watches cannot figure out).

In fact, the Huawei watch comes with a temporary "Brightness Boost" option if you ever find yourself not being able to read through the sun.

The watch even has an incredibly useful ambient mode that dims the screen after a few seconds of inactivity but still shows the time. This enables you to both look at the time and save battery life without needing to touch the screen or move your wrist.

Mixing Design and Comfort

While many early smartwatches did not look attractive or stylish, the industry has come a long way since then. The Huawei Watch is a perfect example of that.

The device has a circular face to resemble more traditional watches and is much smaller and more compact than other models. Though it is a tad bit bigger than your normal watches, it is sleek enough to work or accessorize with just about any outfit.

The lightweight watch is also fully customizable. First, you have three finishes to choose from in black, silver, and gold.

The gold option comes with a brown alligator or leather gold band, while the silver offers a black leather strap, a silver Milanese loop, or a steel link strap. The black casing can be purchased with a black steel link strap, black leather band, or black Milanese loop.

The straps are soft and feel great, but you can add on any one you want (as long as it measures 18mm) to further make the device your own. Simply pull back the release mechanisms to take out the strap and slide a new one in.

Premium Materials

  • Built-in GPS and continuous heart rate: monitor your heart rate and track your workout routes without your phone
  • Scientific sleep tracking: HUAWEI TruSleep keeps track of light, deep and REM sleep stages to make your sleep truly restful
  • Workout Coach: get real-time guidance and workout data such as recovery time and Vo2 Max. Qualcomm MSM8909W, 1.1 GHz

The Huawei Watch is one of the best designed watches on the market – part of that is look, and part of that comes from the high-quality materials. This not only feels like a premium device, but it also has plenty of top of the line features.

For instance, the crown button that sits at the 2 o'clock position acts as a home button that can both wake or dim the screen as needed. The back of the watch also comes with a centralized optical heart rate monitor and four gold contacts for charging purposes.

If that's not enough, the machine is also dust resistant and will survive in water for up to half an hour. Of course, it is not something you would want to take swimming, but that extra durability helps prevent against any unfortunate accidents or sudden rain.

Quick-Charging and Long-Lasting

As with all strong wearable devices, the Huawei Watch has a strong battery that will more than suite your various needs.

The watch comes with a 300mAh battery. Though that is small for a thicker model, it can last up to two days with Ambient Mode turned off and 1.5 days with it on.

Those hours are more than enough time for you to use your watch outside and then charge it when you're home.

A smart watch simply needs to be useful for the amount of time you're away from a charger, and that typically does not last for 24 full hours. However, if you do find yourself with no outlet for that extended period of time, the watch has you covered.

When idle, the device uses very little power, which is great because it means you won't suddenly find yourself stranded. It only takes about an hour to fully charge.

As a result, when the battery does run out it won't take long for you to get some juice and go back on your way.

Comfortable and Natural Interface

The next part to break down is the watch's interface. This, as with all of the above aspects, is impressive across the board.

The Huawei's screen appears like any other Android Wear device.

While that may bum some people out, it is handy because it allows for seamless experience between different Android devices.

Though Android Wear did not blow the doors off when it first came out years ago, it has vastly improved since then. The Huawei Watch is a perfect example of that because it runs the new Android Wear 2.0.

That addition brought some extremely important features to the device, including iPhone compatibility (perfect for people who like iOS), watch-to-watch messaging, gesture support, and Wi-Fi. There are standalone apps, widgets (called complications), and interface tweaks as well.

Those additions took the watch to the next level and created a multi-faceted device that anyone, regardless of their preferences, can take full advantage of.

A Google Machine

The watch is equipped with a standard Google appearance. The information cards pop up from the bottom of the screen and you can scroll through them by sliding your finger or flicking your wrist.

If you want to see more information about a card, you can swipe to the left. If you want to view more information, you simply swipe in the opposite direction.

You also have the option to swipe left on the home screen to reveal your applications (the three most recent will show up at the top).

From there, you can swipe left a second time to reveal your contacts. Tapping a contact will then present you with a call, email, and text options.

The UI also gives you the option to swipe down from the home screen to bring up quick settings. That system can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but it is quite seamless once you get the hang of it.

It is also much less fiddly than the Apple Watch, which is a great bonus for people who are more familiar with the Android interface.

The Benefits of Google Now

The Huawei Watch also comes with Google Now, which actively attempts to predict what you want to see.

For example, if you're exiting your work, it could give you transport directions or bring up any recent emails that you may have missed. It may also show the weather or commute times when you wake up in the morning.

This is a great option to have because it makes your daily life much easier and more streamlined. It is also mitigated with voice control by using the command term "OK Google" that works in the same way as it does on a smartphone.

The feature is fast and works extremely well for people who don't mind speaking into their wrist while out on the go.

The watch also has a range of custom faces that keeps it looking great at all times. Some are more traditional in appearance, while others are much more modern.

An App for That

huawei watch apps

The addition of Android Wear 2.0 populates the device with various apps, including big names like WhatsApp and Tinder. That gives you a lot of options to play around with and more apps are being added each week.

Over time, you will have enough handy apps to give a feel that is similar to a full-fledged device. If you ever need to do something on your watch, there's probably an app for it somewhere in the Google store.

There are also many pre-installed applications including Calendar, Hangouts, Maps, and Google Fit. All of those are helpful in their own way (especially for people who like to organize their life) but the fitness options are what truly shine.

The Huawei Watch comes with three apps focused on fitness. They are Heart Rate, Daily Tracking, and Fitness Tracking.

Though there are other options for people who want a full exercise regime on their watch, those three are a good place to start.

Excellent and Varied Compatibility

As covered, another reason that the Huawei Watch shines over other models is because it is compatible with both Android or iOS.

One of the unfortunate parts of buying a certain device is that it commonly only works with specific devices. Being able to switch to whatever you prefer is an awesome feature and one that greatly expands the machine's versatility.

While the iOS compatibility, as you might guess, is much more limited than Android, you can still download apps and get notifications. There is even an option to incorporate the Google Assistant if you want to.

The Huawei won't fully replace an iPhone, but it has enough features and options to give you the full iOS experience on an Android machine. It also comes at a fraction of the price.

A Magnificent Multi-Faceted Machine

When it comes to cheap Android Wear options, nothing compares to the value of the Huawei Watch. This device is incredibly versatile and packed to the brim with a range of different and exciting features.

Smart watches have come a long way in the last few years.

If you're looking to get one that gives you the full experience without demanding a high price tag, the Huawei is the option for you.
